Study visit to Provincial Specialist Hospital in Wrocław organized by Sarota PR

On the 12th of November 2013, on behalf of FORTINET – a global leader in high-performance network security – SAROTA PR consultants organised a study visit for Polish media in Provincial Specialist Hospital of Wroclaw (SHW), capital city of Lower-Silesian voivodeship. The meeting was dedicated to information technology in the context of adapting SHW structures to the requirements of the Act on health care information. From the 1st of January 2017, all healthcare organizations in Poland will have to enter only the electronic workflow (EDM – Electronic Medical Records). As a leader of innovations, SHW is ready to fully digitize all processed and stored data three years before the EDM provisions entry into force.

During the visit, representatives of the hospital authorities presented how important the medical data security really is, including the most sensitive information about the course of the diseased patients.

First stage of visit was attended by the hospital CEO, professor Wojciech Witkiewicz, mD, PhD, a highly respected medical visionary , father of the idea of buying the country’s first medical da Vinci robot. The professor presented the investments made by the hospital during the recent years in both the medical and computer science. Visitors also listened to a short professor’s lecture about da Vinci robot and watched the live part of the online surgery. Importantly, all the movements of the robot, which is working on fiber optic network, are protected from hackers by Fortinet devices.

Also in the theoretical part of the meeting , Mr Marcin Lenarczyk , Commissioner for the Information Technology presented how Fortinet’s solutions protect hospital data on the daily basis, analyzed the security device logs and showed how the hospital system developed throughout the past 10 years. The discussion was moderated by Mariusz Rzepka, Fortinet Territory Manager, Poland, Belarus and Ukraine.

Then, accompanied by the Head of the Computer Science Department, Mr Andrzej Somiak, journalists had the opportunity to see how modern IT technologies were implemented to the hospital infrastructure. Somiak showed how clinical medical assistants (MCA’s) work and guided visitors to the modern server room.

The visit ended with a dinner arranged at a nearby restaurant. Meeting was attended by the representatives of national, local, medical and IT media.
